Construction crews will return to downtown Lacombe this summer, set to finish off the Main Street project.

The sanitary sewer line was replaced last year, new sidewalks were installed and some improvements were made to some downtown parking lots.

Director of Planning and Operations with the City of Lacombe Jordan Thompson says they now need to finish up some paving and line work.

“With the completion of that underground work and concrete work last year we wanted to let the first two layers of asphalt settle, and make sure that there are no issues with the installation of the mains over the course of the spring melt.  And so now that that has occurred, we are ready for top lift of pavement and permanent line markings this summer”.

Many have noticed the faded crosswalks and line markings, Thompson says those lines installed last year were paint and more appropriate for a temporary or low volume location, but the lines to be installed this time around are more permanent with a longer lifespan.

He explains when you can expect to see crews returning to Main Street.

“Sometime the end of July, probably the mid to end of July range, we want to make sure that we have some good hot weather when we lay asphalt, that gives us the best product at the end of the day.  We anticipate that the final layer of asphalt as well as the installation of the permanent line markings will take about a week to do with rolling road closures”.

The City will step up communication on what residents can expect in terms of traffic disruptions closer to work starting.
