An Innisfail resident approached council back in January, asking them to consider changing the hours of operation for Centennial Park, having it closed at night, in order to limit alleged criminal and disruptive activity.

Innisfail CAO Todd Becker says council decided to gather more information before making any changes.

“We’re going to write a letter to the delegate to state that we will monitor any suspicious activity in the park, and make sure those complaints are filed with enforcement, or RCMP, and then we will report back those findings in six months back to council.”

Becker says council will work with the police to gather reports of disturbances from the area for the next 6 months, to see if action is warranted.

“There has not been a lot of complaints filed officially…this will help create more of a record of what that activity is. And if there is a significant amount of reported cases, than we can take action accordingly.”

The resident in question lives across from the park, and expressed concern about activities taking place there after dark, and wanted to close the parker overnight to prevent vehicles from going in after hours.
