From Hanna, Oyen and Consort RCMP:

More charges have been laid against Rick Ernest Atzler (26) following a pursuit on Nov. 24 that covered several RCMP jursidictions in Alberta.  

RCMP have also identified and charged the female believed to be involved in a business break in an ATM theft in Hanna.

Atzler is facing the following charges out of Oyen: theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, break and enter and commit theft and arson.

Out of Coronation and Provost, he is charged with several offences including mischief under $5,000 (x 4), flight from police, possession of a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and 14 counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance, et al.

The RCMP investigation led to the identification of the female believed to be involved in the break in and ATM theft in Hanna.  

Ashlyn Brett Tomolty (33) was spotted in Consort in the company of a male and Consort RCMP attempted to make an arrest.  

Both subjects fled, and the male stole a vehicle that was running in the parking lot of a local gas station.  

The vehicle was later located abandoned and after a short foot chase, Tomolty was arrested with Darwyn Ronald Beaudry (37). 

At the time of her arrest, Tomolty was wanted on arrest warrants out of Barrhead.

Tomolty is charged with the following out of Consort:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x3)
  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Following a judicial interim release hearing, she was released with a court appearance of December 13, 2019 in Provincial Court in Coronation, Alta.

Beaudry was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Canmore at the time of his arrest.  He is facing 14 criminal charges including: possession of property obtained by crime (x4), assault a police officer, assault with a weapon, flight from police and dangerous operation of a conveyance, et al.

Beaudry remains in police custody.

Original RCMP Release from Nov. 26:

Charges have been laid against a male in relation to recent ATM thefts in both Oyen and Hanna.  The male was arrested following a pursuit which occurred on Nov. 24 and involved police resources from several different detachments.

26-year-old Rick Ernest Atzler of Fawett, Alta has been charged with: 

From Hanna:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to stop for police

From Consort:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x2)
  • Various firearms offences (x6)
  • Fail to stop for police

The investigation continues and charges are still pending from Oyen, Coronation and Provost detachments.

A judicial interim release hearing has been held.  Atzler is remanded in custody to attend court in Hanna on Nov. 28 and in Coronation on Nov. 29.

The RCMP continue to investigate the ATM thefts and are working to identify the second suspect involved.

Original Release from Nov. 24:

Oyen RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in identifying two individuals associated with the business break-in and ATM theft that occurred in Oyen Alberta on November 23rd, 2019. At 6:00 a.m. November 23rd, two masked individuals broke through the front of door of the Deb Mart, in Oyen, AB. 

Using a vehicle, a F350 the suspects smashed the main entrance and pulled out the ATM.  After removing the ATM from the property, the masked individuals returned to remove cigarettes and lottery tickets from the counter.

The vehicle described in this break and enter has since been located burned out in a rural area of Alberta. Witnesses described the suspects fleeing that scene into a large lifted dark coloured Dodge Ram truck, pulling a white enclosed trailer.
