The hamlet of Mirror will soon have a brand new dry bulk storage facility for frac sand built just west of their community.

The Taves Management Dry Bulk Facility received 3rd and final reading at Lacombe County's October 8th, 2020 council meeting to amend their Land Use Bylaw to rezone just over 60 hectares on the Pt. SE 29-40-22 W4M from Agricultural ‘A’ District to Business Industrial “I-IB” District.

Lacombe County Manager Tim Timmons says the frac sand storage facility has been in the works for a while now.

“This facility has actually been in the planning stages for quite some time, and so council at their last meeting gave third and final reading to their rezoning bylaw. The second part of the process is that they have to apply for a development permit, and we anticipate that they will be making an application for that shortly.”

Timmons says they've heard from the community of Mirror who seem to be excited about the economical additional of the plant.

“We were required to circulate the re-designation application, and from what we understand the community is very supportive of it because once they do start constructions and it becomes operational, there’s certainly going to be some economical benefits to that area, which residents of that area are certainly looking forward to.”

Timmons says he expects them to start construction likely some time next year, as soon as their development permit is submitted and approved.
