An explosion was heard across the industrial park in Lacombe this afternoon around 3:30, after an incident at Dynamite Oilfield Services.

Lacombe Deputy Fire Chief Department Drayton Bussiere explains what happened.

“We responded to reports of an explosion out of a tank, and from what we can tell, they were doing some welding work to the tank, and something inside of it must have got hot while they were cutting the tank, and it blew the top off.”

Bussiere says the heat of the day could have played a factor, but the exact cause is not confirmed.

A small amount of grass in the area started on fire, but was dealt with quickly.

One person was treated for minor injuries at the scene, but they did not need to go to the hospital.
