A minor gas leak this morning in Lacombe at the intersection of 55th street and 54th avenue caused minor traffic delays, but no serious damage or injuries.

The leak occurred around 10:30, and was small enough that no residents in the surrounding area had to be evacuated, but the intersection was closed off for a little over an hour.

Luckily the wind was in their favour, blowing most of the gas towards a vacant lot.

Michael Luymes is a Captain with the Lacombe Fire Department, and he says the leak was caused by Atco, who was doing routine work on the line at the time.

"It's just a like strike, that's it. Atco doing a tie in line with their line, and just kind of kicked it out, just a little mistake that happens...their going to isolate it, pinch it, and then fix it from there. No evacuation right now we just shelter and place everybody".

By noon, the fire department had cleared the scene and let Atco continue their work.

No disruption in services were reported.
