Lynda Haarstad-Petten is looking to stay put as Mayor of Bentley.

Haarstad-Petten announced early this week that her named will be back on the ballot in the fall’s election.

After spending the last four years as mayor, she said she’s happy with all the work that’s been done.

“We put an overlay on both the arena and the curling rink because we had leaking problems and that desperately needed to be done. Last year we did a major infrastructure project and replaced the sewer main line while doing some other little extras.”

Some of those extras include an update of the municipal development plan and the land use bylaw.

She said there’s still a lot of work to be done and would like to be a part of it.

“We do have some capital works projects that still need to be completed. One of them is the 53rd avenue road that desperately needs some rehabilitation. As well, I would like to see the main street park and street upgraded a little bit in stages, as funds become available during budget discussions.”

Something else, Haarstad-Petten wanted to accomplish in office was to improve communication between council and the public, which she feels she did.

“I created a council newsletter that I produce each month that lets citizens know what council is doing and the decisions that have been made at the council meetings.”

“We also created a Facebook Page.”

She added she would also like to see a new recreation department to help organize workshops like yoga, painting and exercise in the park.
