On December 11, 2016 Maskwacis RCMP responded to a call for service following an altercation in a residence.

55-year-old Neil Omeasoo was deceased at the residence and 45-year-old Colin Reed was arrested on scene.

Following an investigation led by RCMP Major Crimes South, a charge of Manslaughter has been laid against Colin Reed.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Wetaskiwin on December 13, 2016.

Given that this matter is now before the courts, the RCMP will not be providing any additional information at this time.


Early Sunday morning just after 3:30 a.m. members of the Maskwacis RCMP responded to a complaint of a 55-year-old male who was in medical distress following an altercation in a residence.

Efforts were made to resuscitate the male, however he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the residence.

RCMP Major Crimes South have assumed carriage of this homicide investigation with assistance from Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section and Maskwacis Crime Reduction Unit.

The RCMP are not currently looking for any further suspects and have identified a person of interest. It is not believed that this was a random event.

An autopsy will be held tomorrow at the Edmonton office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing, therefore additional details are not available at this time.
