Residents of Lacombe are well aware of the ongoing construction on Main Street right now, which began at the end of April.

Crews have already completed the sanitary main and water main replacements earlier this month, and are currently working on concrete work during stage 2, which is basically 49C avenue and the intersection of 50th avenue, which is scheduled to be completed the first few weeks of August.

Engineering Services Manager with the City Jordan Thompson presented an update on the construction to City Council on Monday, and he says the project is healthy, and on track both budget wise and on schedule.

He also says that so far, downtown business affected by the construction have been patient and understanding, and the City keeps them informed and up to date on all of the projects stages.

“For the most part I think business are understanding of that, and are appreciative of that. But at the same time, we want to be there for them if there is anything they need in terms of more information, or if they are planning on doing something and they are a little bit worried about the construction schedule, then absolutely we want them to come and talk to us. We want to have a conversation with them about how best we can adapt our practices to meet their objectives as well.”

Sections of 50th Avenue that are now open to motorists are topped with a layer of asphalt milling that was salvaged from 50th Avenue earlier in the year.

Overall, the project is scheduled to be complete by the end of October, with the exception of the top lift of asphalt and the final line markings, which are planned for next year.
