The PC Leadership campaign is picking up steam ahead of the party's March 18th vote.

The party has moved from a one member, one vote system to a delegate selection process, which some of our local PC constituencies are still completing.

President of the Red Deer North PC Association Shawn Pickett sees some positives in the change “it’s interesting I think because there are five seats reserved for board members of the local constituency, so I think it has given a little bit of voice back to the membership of the party and it also leaves ten spots open for people from the general population to come in. I think it gives a nice cross section of the province to be able to come out and have a voice for picking the next leader”.

Both the Red Deer North and Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre Constituency Associations will select their delegates January 31st, those interested in running as a delegate need to indicate their interest by noon on January the 24th and those wanting to vote for delegates need to have purchased a party membership by midnight tonight.

Lacombe-Ponoka meantime votes for delegates February the 7th.

There are 4 in the running for the PC Leadership; Former Calgary MP Jason Kenney, former St. Albert MLA Stephen Khan, Calgary lawyer Byron Nelson and Vermilion-Lloydminster MLA Richard Starke.

Kenney hosted a meet and greet event in Red Deer on Saturday as well as a Town Hall Meeting in Rimbey, he's also planning a Town Hall event this coming Saturday in Lacombe.
