Several local Grade 6 students had the opportunity on Wednesday to participate in Mayor for a Day, where Mayor Christie took the afternoon to give a behind the scenes look at how town council works, and what the mayor’s average day looks like.

Students had to submit essays which were eventually given to the mayor, who had the tough duty of picking out a few winners to participate in this exciting day.

The kids started their day with a meet and greet of the mayor and newly appointed CAO Dion Pollard, followed by lunch in the chambers.

From there, the mayor explained how normal council meetings work, and explained to them some of the rules and regulations when it comes to running a council, such as the correct way to address one another.
Dereck Wagner was one of the lucky few to join the mayor, and he talks about some of the things he has learned from the mayor so far.

"We've just talked about the rules, and what he does, and definitions of stuff... he said the definition of city and county, and we've gone over the rules of the mayor and council...it's been pretty good today."
Jayna Muse is another student, and she has plans to be mayor herself one day.

"I like to make a change in how people think, live, and make them feel good about their community by getting everyone involved in trying to make the community more connected".

Watch for Jayna in future elections.
