A local hot spot is once again being recognized for their commitment to the provinces craft beer.

Cilantro and Chive has over 130 rotating craft beers that all come from local breweries. They were recently chosen by their industry peers as the best restaurant/pub in Alberta.

To decide who gets the award, Alberta breweries vote on who they think supports and represents their brands best.

This news was taken very well by owner Rieley Kay, who says he does what he does because it’s what he loves.

“It’s incredibly humbling, we don’t set out to win the awards or do anything specific we just have some fun,” explains Kay.

This is the second year that Cilantro and Chive have picked up the award from the oh-so-prestigious Alberta Beer Awards.

However, they weren't the only Lacombians to receive some hardware; Blindman Brewing was also recognized for community building and took home some awards for their beers.

They received Silver in the Belgian Ales category for their Anniversary #3: Belgian Tripel, as well as Bronze in the All-Alberta Malt Beer category for their 24-2 Stock Ale.

“There’s such great beer in the province and such great people doing great things that it’s awesome to be able to serve that quality Alberta product,” says Kay.

He says it is exciting and humbling to be a part of a community that supports local entrepreneurs and he explains that his plan is to continue to grow through hard work.

As for the future, he says customers can expect even more craft choices from around the province.

“We just added a few more shelves to our cooler, so we can bring in some more beers."

All in all, Kay says they will continue to give it their all.

"Every day we just push ourselves to be better.”
