A Lindsay Thurber student has been named to the Minister’s Youth Council.

Minister of Education, David Eggen, announced the 32 students who would join the council in the fall, including Grade 12 students Ursella Khan.

Khan said she has a passion for education and is going to relish the opportunity.

“When I saw this I knew I had to apply. This is going to be an amazing experience and opportunity. I’m just one of those people who love to get their opinions, perspectives and ideas out there. Being a part of this council and voicing it to the Minister of Education is pretty cool.”

She said she expects to learn a lot by being part of such a strong group with a drive to improve the lives of students and wants to help make a change.

“I think we can learn more about the Indigenous people and their experiences and what they had to live through when European settlers came to our land. When we learn about it in school we get more of the European settler’s side than the Indigenous people.”

The youth council provides their perspectives on a round table, to the Minister and Alberta Education on ways to improve the education system in Alberta and better ways to prepare students for future success.
