Residents of Lacombe will get their first look at the light armored vehicle at the Lacombe Day's Parade tomorrow.

Before it's placed in its final resting spot at the new Veterans Field of Honour at the Fairview Cemetery, the LAV III will be in the parade tomorrow which starts at 9:30, before a special ceremony at 3pm where it will take its place as centre piece of the Lacombe Afghanistan Memorial project.

Treasurer of the Lacombe Legion Calvin Swarbrick, says alongside the LAV III, will be a significant military presence in this year’s parade and during the dedication ceremony.

“You’ll see the color guard march in, and the band from Red Deer, the pipe band, will be there, and all the dignitaries will be there. Blaine Calkins will be there, and Ron Orr, and our Chaplin Sheila McClellan, will be speaking.”

In additional to them, members of different regiments of the Canadian Light Infantry will be in attendance, some of which served directly with Corporal Byron Greff, the last solider to be killed in Afghanistan, who was from Lacombe.

Swarbrick says they still have some money to raise for additional items around the LAV III monument.

Benches, flowers, and a granite plaque still need to be added to the Veterans Field of Honour.
