Lacombians did a wonderful job painting tiles for our cities part of the 'train' that is being put together for the Canada 150 Mural.

The objective of the project is to paint tiles in whichever way the painter desires, and then it is put together to create a picture.

Citizens of Lacombe both young and old gathered to paint the tiles.

Lewis Lavoie and his crew have been busy putting together the pieces of the train that eventually will be put together to show the history of Canada in each region.

They are hired by each community to do this, which has given them quite a few tiles to work with.

“We’ve been travelling all over Canada for the last two and a half years doing this and we have over 100 communities involved.”

Each community chooses what they think represents them as a whole, and hundreds of tiles are put together to showcase the projects.

Of the forty-seven themes/suggestions put forth by the community, the most frequent were the Flat Iron Building, trees, people/community, and the Research Station.

Lavoie says if you painted a tile, there is a way you can find it. He says he is proud to be doing the work that he is.

“It’s something as an artist you always talk about working with other artists to do something significant, and bring people together.”
