The City of Lacombe is pleased to announce they will now be providing their management services for the new regional wastewater transmission system.

This is in addition to the services they have been providing for its "sister system", as the municipality has been managing the North Red Deer Regional Water Services Commission for the past ten years.

Acting CAO Matthew Goudy says the City has been preparing for this responsibility for a while now.

“5 years ago the City foresaw there was going to be problems in maintaining compliance with federal and provincial regulations for wastewater effluent, so we formed a regional commission that looked at and really actively lobbied for and worked on behalf of creating a regional system in the area.”

Goudy says this will benefit our area by making it easier for us to expand services in the future.

“So the economic benefit of the regional system in general, sort of relates to the whole region. It allows us to keep developing while maintaining compliance with those regulatory requirements. And so we’re excited to be able to offer years and years of growth to both our member communities and those communities we pass through.”

Construction on the regional wastewater line, which will transport wastewater from Lacombe, Blackfalds, and Lacombe County to the plant in Red Deer, is on time and on budget.  Crews recently finished up pressure testing on the lines in the ground, electrical work is next, and then landscaping in the spring.
