Its business as usual for a number of community groups who receive funding from the city, as the 2019 budget presentations were presented at Tuesdays Lacombe City Council meeting.

Some highlights from last year include an increase in tourism and a decrease in the amount of calls the Lacombe Police Service has responded to.

CAO Mathew Goudy says the presentations were all positive, reflecting on a great 2018 and focusing on a promising 2019.

“In terms of heritage preservation we had a couple more designations within the city, our economic development organizations are supporting investment in the city and seeing return on those investments. It was sort of a testament to the good work that’s been done in the past, and showing that it was working, it is working. The system is working and delivering value to the community.”

Some of those heritage preservation designations include the Michener House Museum and Archives, the Lacombe Cenotaph, St. Andrews Church, and the Fraser MacDonald building, further cementing our cities commitment to preserving our past while keeping an eye on the future.

Goudy says we've had a lot to be proud of these last couple of years.

“When you look at this year being recognized as the best place to live in western Canada, we recently won the AUMA award for sustainability and collaboration, APWA just gave us project of the year for our main street. It has been an awesome years, it’s been one of the best years in Lacombe that I can remember, and the future is bright. We’re expanding services to the west, we’re expanding services to the north, we have development going on in the east, I mean it’s a really exciting time for Lacombe.”
