Lacombe's Deputy Fire Chief is back from the largest annual firefighting conference in the world.

Drayton Bussiere spent 5 days in Indianapolis at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference, alongside more than 30,000 other attendees.

Bussiere says the educational opportunity and the access to resources he left with is invaluable.

“Really because the scope of the conference is so large, it just gives us access to training that we couldn’t get otherwise. I took courses from Fire Chiefs that have been in the business for 40 years and have been doing this stuff for a long time and have worked with volunteer fire fighters in their careers and have developed programs to work with them”.

The Deputy Chief says he was able to access training specific to needs they have here in Lacombe.

“The approach we generally try to take when we go down there is to take stuff that we can bring back and better our department with it. So I took a couple of courses that had different tactical things we can do just so that we can review our procedures and see if we can make them better and then actually took a few things that work on developing our fire department which is a big part of my job”.

The Fire Department Instructor's Conference draws attendees and instructors from all over the world; it was in its 90th year this year.
