Lacombe is proving to be a very innovative community and has been noticed provincially and nationally for our projects and initiatives.

Recently the city received the Choosewell Healthy Community Award from the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association.

Lacombe’s Choosewell Coordinator Sonya Beauclair is proud that their hard work has been paying off.

“I just think it’s great to get recognize for all the work that the community is doing. A lot of their different initiatives really make it so it’s not even necessarily the City doing them, it’s the people and what they want, and so just for the fact that we’ve helped support them and helped some of them get going it’s just really nice to get to say that we are helping them.”

They received the award for many different programs, activities and challenges that they have put into place throughout the year, which promote healthy eating and active living.

“Once a month they are doing a Pokémon Go day and they get everyone else playing Pokémon Go and having prizes. We did games on some of the sidewalks and trails just to encourage kids to get out and do some free play,” says Beauclair.
