Exploring ways to improve education for students, Lacombe Junior High School is adding two new Fine Art programs.

The addition of a Band and a choral-based Music program will begin next year.

Students voiced their concerns through a Wolf Creek Public School survey called Thought Exchange, an online tool allowing students to share their thoughts on their school experience, successes and challenges and suggested the new courses.

Wolf Creek Public Schools Superintendent Jayson Lovell says they are always looking for ways to improve a student’s ability to learn.

“Students in Lacombe Junior High will have that opportunity now next year which is fantastic. It’s just a real great opportunity to focus on the Fine Arts because we do know it’s a very important part of a student’s education experience.”

“We want to be able to provide those opportunities.”

Lovell said getting feedback is also a great way to see how they’re doing through the eyes of a student.

“The student voice is really important aspect of what we do here at Wolf Creek as far as wanting to gather insight and perspectives and information from our students to really guide the direction of our school division.”

“It’s actually a board innovative and this year we have the opportunity to use the tool called Thought Exchange.”

Based on the feedback, a Food Studies program is also being added to the curriculum at Clive and Mecca Glen School along with the addition of new kitchen equipment.

Just over 700 students participated in the survey, something Lovell says they were extremely happy about.
