Lacombe firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at a home in Lexington Close this morning.

Around 11am crews responded and say the fire was caused from a pot that was left on the stove.

Fire Chief Ed VanDelden said although it’s not certain what was in the pot, it's not uncommon for them to respond to fires regarding cooking oil.

“The oil overheats to the point where it bursts into flames. That ability for a home owner to see that happening and to detect it before it bursts into flames is difficult. It heats up slowly then goes through transitions very quickly to fuming and at that point bursts into flames.”

Damages are estimated around $20,000 and although people were home at the time no one was injured.
