The Lacombe and District Historical Society have seen a swell of generosity from the community, after putting a call out searching for local hockey memorabilia.

They wanted to add to their local hockey history in anticipation for Rogers Hometown Hockey this weekend, as they will be one of the focal points of festivities.

Executive Director with Lacombe Regional Tourism Marie Pèron says since they made that call, they've had people willing to lend out their items, or even donate them completely to the society.

“People have been reaching out to us after hearing about the exhibits… we now have way more stuff on display from all kinds of different teams that have been here in the community. Seniors men’s team, to amateur teams, women’s teams, girls teams. We have stuff from the Rockets who are really well known, to some of those more amateur teams that maybe aren’t as recognized, and this is a great chance for them to get that recognition.”

Those items include the Lacombe Rockets, a jacket from a Lacombe high school hockey team from the 50's, and plaque honoring the Lacombe Ice, who was the first female Midget B team to bring home provincial gold back in 2006.
