Lacombe Days needs about 20 volunteers if the four-day event is to proceed with the same number of festivities.

The organizing committee's Chris Ross says, they're desperate.

"Without the volunteers, we are looking at the possibility of scaling down. It's a lot of work for a very small committee that's been part of it for several years," Ross says.

Ross says volunteers are needed to take gate admissions, put up signs and even serve on the committee, which currently has five members.

Also, fireworks will not be part of this year's festival.

Ross says the 10-minute show just isn't worth the $6,300 cost.

Instead, there will be a light show during music on the Friday and Saturday.

"We feel that the cost is ... not acceptable. We don't feel we're getting the value compared to years in the past," he says. "Trying something different. We just feel that the cost is too significant."
