With all the snow that’s accumulated over the holidays, the Lacombe Cross Country Ski Club has completed track setting around the golf course and is now open for business.

President, Brent Bouwsema, said the trails are in good condition and there are various levels.

“There’s a perimeter trail which is three kilometers and it’s pretty simple. Then there are three interior trails that we’ve also created. One is simple, one is intermediate and one is more expert.  There’s another one that’s quite simple and that one is right out of the clubhouse. We’ve designed that one so that families who are just trying it out have a really simple way of doing a quick loop, it’s about one kilometer.”

Bouwsema also explained that they are continuing to work with the city to add more trails around Elizabeth Lake and Lake Ann and are currently trying to find affordable insurance.

So far he said the response this season has been positive.

“Everyone’s really thrilled. We always get quite a few members, at least we did last year and we did this year, once we actually create the trails. So once they actually start using the trails they realize the value of it and they understand that they want to support the club by becoming a member.”

So far the club has 65 members and Bouwsema added they’re always looking for more.

There are also a couple of upcoming events to look out for including a ski waxing clinic on Jan. 21. The price is $10 per set of skis and you can RSVP to the event by e-mailing contactus@skilacombe.com.

The club is also hosting a social on Jan. 22 from noon until 3:00pm at the golf course. Everyone is invited to come out and buy a hot dog, warm drink, a membership, or just say hi.

For information on how to apply for a membership visit their website at www.skilacombe.com, the cost is $10. You can also contact the club through their website or e-mail contactus@skilacombe.com to fill out an application in person.
