More signs promoting Lacombe County's biggest attractions could be the answer to increase tourism.

Lacombe Regional Tourism has spent the last year assessing the strengths and weaknesses of tourism in the area as part of a Visitor Friendly Assessment.

Executive Director Marie Peron says people need to be reminded of what the County has to offer “signage and directional wayfinding is a really important tool as people travel through the region to prompt them to stop at attractions, to go in and visit communities to find the services they need”.

The assessment also looked at the communities of Lacombe and Blackfalds within the County.

One issue that has created a cause for concern is the number of businesses who choose to close on Sunday.

Peron says seeing more businesses extend their hours is something that would benefit everybody “there’s got to be work going forward to make sure that businesses are aware that there is a demand for shopping on Sundays and to take part in tourism experiences throughout the entire weekend, which also from our standpoint would help with overnight stays and that in turn would increase the economic benefit of tourism”.

Peron would eventually also like to see improvements to downtown wheelchair accessibility in the communities.
