In hopes of drawing more tourists to Lacombe County, County Council has pledged some cash for Travel Alberta's Boomtown Trail promotion.

The Boomtown Trail dates back 100 years to when the railway came through central Alberta, it spans 486 kilometers and runs east of the QE2 highway between Edmonton and Calgary.

Lacombe County has earmarked nearly $3,000 to the marketing campaign and is looking to Travel Alberta to match their contribution.

Division 2 County Councillor Brenda Knight explains what the campaign will highlight.

“In Lacombe County specifically it will be the east side and the Village of Clive has also signed on.  We will be showcasing some of the agritourism, some of the agribusinesses, the museums, unique little businesses in the area as well as Tees Rodeo, May long weekend, that type of thing”.

Knight says their investment will help create a video and photos and a number of online links to amenities.

“Showcasing and highlighting what is to be seen out our way, the focus being that the major centres have the hotels for folks to stay at.  We realize as small centres we don’t have that, so it’s an effort to encourage them to stay longer in the bigger areas with the hotels and visit our different amenities while they are out here”.

A number of municipalities are on board with the Boomtown Trail , including Red Deer County, Camrose County and Stettler County.
