For the 6th time, the issue of paving the Sandy Point road was brought up at Lacombe County Council yesterday (Wednesday, October 8th).

This time, terms of an agreement were finally made between the County and the developers in that area, so paving can begin on the road as soon as possible.

The developer has put a piece of land as security to cover their side of the agreement.

Lacombe County Reeve Paula Law explains.

“The developers are putting up some land as security for going forward with the pavement on this, with the re-payment schedule and interest on it, the county is going to go forward with paving that road. Yes it is a little pre-mature on the development agreement, but again neither party envisioned the success of that area.”

Law says no one could have anticipated the high volume of traffic to that area.

“A lot of it was when the Development Agreement was first signed a number of years ago, I don’t think either party envisioned the success we had with the beach, with the boat launch and all of that, and it was actually bigger than we hoped.”

The paving of RR 1-1 from Highway 12A north to the entrance of Sandy Point RV Resort will cost an estimated $ 1,881,117 to the Lacombe County 2018 Paving Program, subject to the agreement being entered into between the county and the developer, with paving expected to begin in spring of 2018.
