The Lacombe Centre Mall will be receiving a face lift. A small distanced ground breaking ceremony was held for the rejuvenation project on May 20, 2021. Construction is set to begin in June of 2021.

“I for one, am very pleased to see this much needed revitalization move ahead. I look forward to a grand opening in the not too distant future. The Lacombe Center Mall has been a longtime business hub it's very important for our community. I'm sure that the new and improved version will expand upon that legacy. I expect everyone realizes how much that I value development,” said City of Lacombe Mayor Grant Creasey.

With a couple new developments happening in Lacombe, Mayor Grant Creasey doesn’t believe there is cause for concern existing businesses in the City and looks forward to seeing growth in the City’s economy.

“I absolutely am concerned. Hopefully, they have to make several more trips to the bank each month,” Creasey joked.

It is believed the mall is around 40 years old and was constructed sometime in the 70’s in several stages based on historical architectural drawings. The mall has been a hub for several many generations of businesses and a hangout location for many teens and youth and building’s aging exterior will soon be improved.

The renovation will include an expansion to Peavey Mart and upgrades to the North half of the mall exteriors. A new KFC franchise will also be added to the property in the East Parking lot.

The property was previously owned by Lakefront Developments and now Lacombe Centre GP Inc has taken ownership. The mall’s history and location played a large part in attracting investors for the project.

“I think I speak for all of us involved when I say that apart from location along the highway has tremendous opportunity with strong anchor tenants in this in this mall itself. Lacombe is a dynamic city. We've watched them continue to make strides through the pandemic… Often times, investors that I work with think rural Alberta and they think oil and gas and that's a one trick pony in a small community. That's not the case in Lacombe and you continue to do well through a pandemic. That in and of itself is probably the largest driving force for us in investing in a project like this,” said Kristal Heise, President of Lacombe Centre GP Inc.

The renovation will be completed by Scott Builders Inc. and the exterior upgrades are expected to be finished by next year.
