Lacombe County is showing their usual support for neighbouring municipalities this week, after requests for funding were made by a few municipalities.

The City of Lacombe made their annual request for recreation upgrades for the LMC and the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.

Manager of Corporate Services for Lacombe County Michael Minchin says this was a smaller request than previous years, due the recent major arena renovations eliminating much of those life cycle replacement costs.

“This year the city had a number of small requests at the aquatic centre, curling rink, and the Lacombe Memorial Centre. A lot of that dealing with heating units and air handling units, so we participated on a proportion basis of the final total.”

The County provided the City with about $17,000 to help cover these upgrades, which were already identified in the ten year capital plans provided by the City.

The Town of Eckville will receive $15,000 for their community centre to repair and replace ceiling tiles, roof AC units, and LED lights.

$32,000 will be going to the Lacombe Regional Airport, as this is the first year for the funding agreement between them and the county.

Covering 25% of the north taxiway, Minchin says this will help the airport plan for the future.

“That’s part of their expansion, it’ll connect a number of new hangers that have been, or future hangers that are being built in the north with the existing runway.”
