The interim leader for the newly formed United Conservative Party Nathan Cooper, officially launched his summer tour yesterday, where he plans on gathering feedback from Alberta regarding the UCP and their policies.

Cooper was in Old's yesterday morning helping to serve coffee at Tim Hortons, which is a usual hotbed of Canadian political debate, and he says his job right now is to be a team builder, and spread the message of the Conservative movement.

“It’s not my goal to move our party to the left or to the right, but to build our party up. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done over the next few months. We will be developing a constitutional framework, considering policies, and focusing on aspects of party building.”

He said one of the concerns he hears most often, is how they are going to band together to hold the current NDP government accountable.

“Building the Conservative movement, and letting everyday Albertans know that there is a home for them in the Conservative movement, as well as ensuring we hold and continue to do the important work of the opposition, and that’s holding the government to account.”

Cooper does not plan on running for the top spot in the party this fall, but he is honored that his party choose him to lead in the meantime.

He will be making stops around Calgary next week.
