The Town of Innisfail has been talking about and raising money for a skateboard park for a few years now, with the Kinsmen club helping to move the project forward.

A new council has renewed interest in the project and accelerated the timeline, but there are still a few details council needs to work out, says CAO Todd Becker.

Details like the location and what will be developed around it.

“They want to have a more detailed sight plan to go along with the development to ensure that the bigger picture piece has been identified.”

Becker says they want to make sure they make the most of the area around where the park is planning on being built.

“We asked, what site has the best opportunity to develop further out to meet the community’s biggest needs? Instead of having park spaces and amenities scattered throughout the community, council is asking, how can we develop an area inclusive of the skateboard park that will meet the communities immediate and future needs?”

The Innisfail Horseshoe Club made a presentation at the most recent council meeting, citing concerns about the location current planned for the skateboard park, which would be north the horseshoe pits, at the intersection of 42nd Street and 51st Avenue.
