The red carpet was rolled out on Saturday at Carnival Cinemas in Red Deer for the first screening of the movie, Cor Values, which includes several scenes shot in Springbrook, Red Deer and Lacombe.

The independent film tells the story of Cormac Dandridge, a reporter played by Morgan LeBlanc, who returns to his sleepy hometown and ends up investigating a series of murders.

Executive producer Dean Busch said where flick ends up is in the hands of the distribution company.

“We do have a distribution deal. I can’t say too much about it. More than likely I’m guessing it will be on video-on-demand somewhere,” Busch said.

There were a couple familiar landmarks for central Alberta viewers, including Highway 12 storefronts in downtown Lacombe and Red Deer City Hall.

Not everything went according to plan on the set, and Busch shared a story of how luck saved one of their scenes.

They were about to film in a house, only to discover it had been demolished.

“I was about five minutes from having crew and cast on set. I was just pulling my hair out,” he said.

“Luckily, the guys that bulldozed it were still there and they say, ‘hey, we’ve got another house.’ Within 15 minutes, I had the crew turning their vehicles around and heading to another location and we found another abandoned house and shot there. That was probably the biggest oops we had.”
