After much success on Sylvan Lake, the "Take it Off" online ice fishing hut registration is now available for those placing a hut on Gull Lake.

It's a partnership between Lacombe County, Ponoka County and the Summer Villages of Gull Lake and Parkland Beach.

Lacombe County Environmental Coordinator Monica Boudreault says it's a voluntary program that offers up some simple reminders to lake users "this is being a little more proactive, there has been some in the past left on, we think probably people have just forgotten them and so with this registry it allows us if we see a registration number on an ice hut it's easy for us to contact the fisherman and just remind them the ice fishing season is coming to an end and please take off the fish hut from the ice".

Boudreault says before the "Take it Off" program on Sylvan Lake launched, over 20 ice fishing huts were left out on the lake in the spring, and that improved last year with all of them removed.

It's all in an effort to prevent lake pollution with the debris and contents of the ice fishing huts creating hazards for boat and lake users as well as fish and other wildlife.

It's an easy one time registration that is free of charge, you can have your ice fishing hut registered by simply calling Lacombe County at 403-782-6601 or by visiting Lacombe County Website.

You'll be issued a registration number which you must display on your ice hut, that way the County can contact owners if huts have been left out in the spring, or if there are any vandalism or theft concerns during the season.
