The Village of Alix is trying to decide what to do with the former building of the Moonwalkers Play Centre, after closing its doors last December.

Alix opened the play centre back in 2013, hoping it would be a long term economic anchor in their community that would bring in visitors and tourism dollars.

Ultimately council decided to close Moonwalkers, siting the reason as costing taxpayers too much to operate.

While nothing is finalized, council is now in the planning stages and is hoping to put forth a community wide naming contest.

Mayor Arlene Nelson said while she's unhappy Moonwalkers closed, she's hoping the contest will encourage people to get involved in a positive way.

“It will help everybody and it will bring our village closer together,” Nelson said.

“I don’t expect people to just forget Moonwalkers, what I do expect is for people to look at the reasons it was there, look at the reasons that it failed and then build on that and move forward to something new and exciting.”

Nelson added while nothing has been put in stone, council is hoping to have more details in the upcoming months.
