On the morning of Monday, April 24, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a complaint of a woman who was shot while in her residence on the Samson Cree Nation.

RCMP went to the home, and noticed numerous bullet holes in the exterior of the home.

Two adult females and an infant were home at the time of the shooting. A 52-year-old woman was struck by bullets as she slept on her bed. The other female and infant were not injured.

The 52-year-old woman was transported to an Edmonton hospital where she underwent surgery and remains in serious condition.

“It is a tragic situation when an innocent family is the victim of a violent offence”, says Inspector Earl Nini, Detachment Commander, Maskwacis RCMP. “We are diligently working on not only solving this investigation but working with the community on crime reduction initiatives.”

Several RCMP units attended to this incident and are actively involved in investigating this shooting.
