The owner of the Track on 2 in Lacombe County says competitive horse racing is back in central Alberta, starting August.

Kyla Belich says last year, the facility hosted exhibition races.

She adds admission to watch horse-racing is free and is expecting a good turnout.

“It really does appeal to all ages and demographics,” she says. “We really think that the community is going to come out and support us.”

Renovations to the property are underway, including new bathrooms, a commercial kitchen and converting the riding arena into a four-seasons facility.

“We’re hoping that the renovations are wrapped up very soon here and we can start to host some weddings and corporate bookings and Christmas parties,” Belich says. “Down the road, we certainly hope to have some live music events as well.”

Once complete, she says the Track on 2 will have capacity for 2,400 people.
