Environment Canada's Senior Climatologist says we're really going to enjoy the best of both worlds weather wise for the holidays.

With some light flurries expected today and overnight we'll have a light dusting of snow, and then plenty of sun according to David Phillips.

“Wall to wall sunshine, and cooler temperatures, but not really as cold as it was last Christmas, and so driving around, getting to relatives and friends houses, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day looks like it’s going to be scot-free”.

Phillips admits while we’ve enjoyed a number of days of near record highs temperature wise the last two weeks, you’ll need the toque and mitts over the holidays.

“It’s going to look like winter and it’s going to feel like winter because we’re going to see temperatures that get down to highs of minus 6, minus 8, minus 12.  Typically at this time of year in Lacombe, highs should be around minus 5, so a little colder than normal”.

The silver lining according to Phillips is the latest sprinkle of snow will stick around, helping create a somewhat white Christmas.

“Temperatures that will keep the snow, so when kids get the saucers, or the toboggans or the snowboard, they’re going to be able to use those.  Of course it’s white gold out to the higher elevations of Alberta, this is something they have been waiting for and worried about, but it’s almost as if nature has come to the rescue”.
