Gull Lake Watershed is asking Lacombe County for help, in regards to their Gull Lake Wetlands Project.

The group has requested to use the county’s equipment for two weeks plus man power, sometime in the next five months, to establish wetland and settling area for the water running into Gull Lake.

Craig Macleod, President of Gull Lake Watershed Society, believes it’s important to take care of Gull Lake and said this would benefit it greatly.

“In the wetlands, plants literally absorb the nutrients, settle the nutrients, slow down the water and provide a tremendous filtration; a natural filtration.”

Macleod believes Gull Lake is a special place for Albertans and said it needs to be taken care of.

“Gull Lake is a generational asset that we want to protect; we want to ensure sustainable stewardship of the land around Gull Lake for the generations.”

MacLeod adds the benefits of wetlands include the reduction of erosion from flooding and will provide exceptional biodiversity/habitat.

They have also asked the county to purchase the wetlands highest visibility Shawn Prins 47 acre wetlands that drains the Weiss Creek basis on the south side of Gull Lake.
