If you have a grad, cocktail, or bridesmaid dress sitting in your closet with no plans of wearing it again, you can help make graduation special for a few local youth.

Western Financial Group in Lacombe has so far collected about 40 dresses, and is hoping to make a late push and collect a few more before grads make their way in on Saturday to pick one out.

Brittany Broere says their Gown Extravaganza is an attempt to make graduation special for every girl in Lacombe.

"We're going to be in here from noon until 3 o'clock, and no appointment needed just come on in. We're going to have some snacks, giveaways for gift certificates, and coupons to local salons. So we'll have draws for everyone who donated. Then the girls in grade 9 or 12 can come in, try on a few dresses and if they find one they like they can leave here with it, no expense to them."

Broere says a grad dress is a big purchase, and they know that not every family can afford it.

"Dresses are beyond expensive. Then you get some of these schools that have a farewell for grade 9, then graduation for grade 12. So some families have to not only buy one dress, but two or three years later buy another dress. They can run you about $2000-$3000 if you really wanted to go over and above."

If you have a dress you'd like to donate, you can drop them off at Western Financial Insurance (5024 - 51 Street Lacombe) before Friday at 5:00 pm.
