From Penhold Fire Department:

On Thursday August 30 2018 at 04:00 am Penhold fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Robinson avenue.

Fire Lieutenant Josh wilson said that "on arrival there was heavy fire showing through the roof on the rear of the house. Wilson said the firefighters initially attacked the fire from the rear of the house."

Fire Chief Jim Pendergast: "a male passerby on his way home from work noticed the rear deck, side of the house and roof on fire and woke up the occupants telling them to evacuate."

Pendergast said there is no doubt that the good Samaritan saved possible injury to the occupants as the house was already filling with smoke. He said there were 5 occupants in the house and 2 pets.

All 5 occupants were able to get out and are with the neighbours. Firefighters rescued 1 cat and 1 is still missing.

Pendergast said that although there was extensive flames coming from all sides of the house there was no damage to any other homes.

There is no exact estimate of damage but it will be in excess of $300,000.00.

The cause is being investigated and there were no injuries. 18 firefighters, 5 fire vehicles responded along with EMS who set up rehabilitation for the firefighters, RCMP, Public Works and utilities.

Fire crews will remain on scene until after 08:00 am with that portion of Robinson Ave closed to traffic.
