Fortis Alberta wants to help you save money on power consumption for the upcoming holiday season, by offering free outdoor timers.

Natasha Russell is an Energy Efficiency Advisor with Fortis Alberta says this is all part of Fortis's effort to help reduce your carbon footprint.

“It’s really a part of our Save Energy program. We want to help our customers reduce their electricity consumption, and find better ways to raise awareness and educate our customers on things they can do that are simple but effective solutions to help them in making energy efficient decisions.”

Russell says these timers are able to withstand our winters.

“You can use it as a block heater timer, like if you plug your car and time it to go on. You can also plug in your Christmas and Halloween lighting, because it’s that time of year, plus October is energy awareness month, so it’s a great fit for that as well.”

This is the 6th year Fortis has offered this program, offering LED lightbulbs the last few years.

You can pick up your free timer this Saturday at most Home Hardware locations across Alberta, including Ponoka, Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House, and Lacombe.

They are valued at $22, and are limited to one per household on a first come first-served basis.
