Fire ripped through an abandoned mobile home in Penhold on Saturday night.

Fire crews from Penhold and Innisfail responded to the Penhold Estates Trailer Court on Minto Street shortly after 8, finding lots of smoke and flames visible through the windows.

According to Penhold Fire Chief Jim Pendergast the mobile home had been unoccupied for several months, but there were squatters staying inside.

No one was hurt, the cold conditions did present some challenges for fire crews both for their footing and breathing apparatuses, with 2 fire fighters receiving medical treatment at the scene.

Neighbouring residents were evacuated for a couple of hours.

Pendergast says the cause of the fire is under investigation, but is considered suspicious.

Innisfail RCMP is asking anyone with information to come forward or call Crimestoppers.
