From the Town of Ponoka

Effective immediately, a Fire Advisory has been issued for all properties within the Town of Ponoka corporate limits due to dry conditions.

Under the Fire Advisory, no new burn permits will be issued until current conditions improve.

Use of approved backyard fire pits with screens, as well as other wood or charcoal burning appliances that meet accepted requirements under the Town’s Fire Services Bylaw is still permitted.

However, residents are advised to exercise caution and never leave an open air fire unattended. For updates on Fire Bans and Advisories across the province, please visit www.albertafirebans.ca

 From Ponoka County:

Effective immediately, Ponoka County (incl. Town of Rimbey, Town of Ponoka & Summer Village of Parkland Beach) are under a Fire Advisory.

Due to continued dry windy conditions, and warming temperatures in the forecast, the Regional Fire Services WILL NOT be authorizing any new Fire Permits until further notice.

However, all previously issued Fire Permits will be allowed to expire. Burning barrels (with screens), cooking or warming fires in approved fire pits will be still be allowed at this time; however, please use with extreme caution. This Advisory will remain in effect until adequate moisture is received or conditions necessitate the need for a Fire Ban.

Always remember to use extreme caution while using your fire pits, burn barrels and conducting any open burning. An “under control” fire can change in a matter of seconds or minutes. Be aware of the weather conditions at all times while burning. Always extinguish your fire if the change in weather increases the hazard of your fire.

Thanks for helping keep the residents and community safe!
