After years of lobbying for an Urgent Care Centre in Sylvan Lake, it's now less than a year away.

As plans progress for the new advanced Ambulatory Care Centre which will open next spring, fundraising efforts continue.

For the 3rd year a fundraising golf tournament is set to tee off tomorrow (Aug 11th).

Chair of the Urgent Care Committee Susan Samson says they have some commitments to meet in terms of dollars needed to help support that new care centre.

“We’ve raised to date $200,000 to assist them in the purchase of medical equipment.  We are committed to raising $50,000 this year, so at the end of 2017 we’ll be giving Alberta Health Services a cheque for $250,000 to get out there, buy the equipment we need and we’ll be up and running my May”.

Last year the golf tournament brought in about $38,000.

In terms of location and services to be offered by the new Ambulatory Care Centre, Samson explains.

“It will be located in the Sylvan Lake Health Unit which is adjacent to the NexSource Centre here in Sylvan Lake.  It will provide the same services we’ve been asking for, which is medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries available 7 days a week with extended hours”.

There's still some space in tomorrow's tournament, you can register by stopping by or calling Meadowlands Golf Club.
