With spring thaw right around the corner, the Sylvan Lake Management Committee is urging ice fishers to remove their huts from local lakes.

Ice huts do not legally need to be removed from Sylvan, Gull and Buffalo Lakes until March 31st, the group says it's important to get them off before the ice surface deteriorates.

The Take It Off program managed by the committee has been having much success seeing ice fishers register their huts, so they can be contacted for removal or if any problems arise during the season.

Abandoned ice fishing huts are detrimental to lake health and pose safety risks to lake users.
