Community organizations from all across the province will be receiving some financial aid from the Alberta Government, to help spread the message of elder abuse.

On the list of 31 recipients, is the Sylvan Lake FCSS, who will be receiving just over $50,000.

The news comes on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Community Development Coordinator with FCSS, Alissa McDonald, said the money will go towards spreading awareness.

“Just education and awareness around elder abuse and creating the people who need to be sitting around the table gathering those people and working on what our response would be.”

It's all part of the Taking Action Against Elder Abuse Co-ordinated Community Response Grant program, which helps organizations work together to address elder abuse through prevention strategies and increased safety measures.

In total, the Alberta Government is handing out $1.5 million for the program.

McDonald said there’s a ton of excitement around the news.

“We’re very excited that the government is seeing the importance behind supporting our seniors and elders in the community and realizing that funding is going to be sustainable for at least another year.”

"It’s really exciting.”

Greenwood Neighborhood Place Society in Sundre is also receiving funding, in the total $60,000.
