Excitement is growing in the Town of Ponoka with plans of revitalizing their downtown, including reconstructing their main streets.

The public was invited to meet with the councillors Friday night at the Ponoka Trade Fair to voice their concerns and to ask any questions they may have.

Overall, Mayor Rick Bonnett said people are happy with the direction the Town is going.

“With this new information and the stuff we are purposing, we’re seeing a lot more questions and people for the most part are telling me they are excited about some of the things that we’re moving forward.”

Ponoka is also in the process of getting a Community Learning Centre after the town signed a lease agreement earlier this month along with a new recreation facility.

Bonnett said it’s an exciting time for Ponoka and the additions to the town couldn’t come at a better time.

“We’ll the see the economy start to turn in the next year, year and a half as Alberta picks up again.”

“I think we (Ponoka) are getting ourselves in a good position to further that growth.”

Bonnett said he will be travelling to Ottawa at the end of May to talk about getting government funding to help pay for the construction of their recreation facility.

The public is invited to a Public Open House May 24 at the Kinsmen Community Centre in Ponoka to view and provide feedback on a draft of Ponoka's Downtown Action Plain.
