On Saturday September 2 2017 just before 8:30pm Penhold Fire Crews were called to a report of power lines arcing on Minto St. Fire crews arrived to find 3 sections of lines arcing and a small grass fire.

Penhold's Fire Chief Jim Pendergast said " we requested Fortis to shut off the power, and evacuated 7 homes that were immediately threatened. Pendergast went on to say the Town set up a reception center staffed by volunteers and Town staff and 7-8 people were accommodated including a family with small children along with several pets".

Fortis disconnected the power to the property and the firefighters put out the small fire. The homes will be with out power until an electrician can make repairs. Pendergast went onto say "a representative of the property owners met with the residents and offered accommodations for them. All residents decided to remain in their homes. This was an example of all parties working together to achieve a successful conclusion".

The reception center was shutdown by 10:45pm. There were no injuries, 18 firefighters in 5 units responded along with a peace officer. The high winds are believed to have contributed to the cause.
