From Rocky Mountain House RCMP:

On August 4 around 8:00 p.m., the Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a call for assistance from canoers who had capsized their canoe and had fallen into the North Saskatchewan River.

Of the group of eight canoers, two were exposed to the water and required medical attention.

RCMP were able to make contact with the group who were stranded on the east side of the river, north east of Rocky Mountain House. RCMP, Search and Rescue, EMS, and Clearwater Fire responded and launched two rescue boats.

Emergency crews located the group and were able to escort the two injured canoers across the river to safety where they were treated by EMS. The remaining six did not sustain any further injuries.

The RCMP would like to remind the public about the natural hazards in the back country at this time of year.
