United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney congratulated Devin Dreeshen late last night on winning the nomination to represent the UCP in the upcoming Innisfail-Sylvan Lake by-election.

Kenney had many great things to say about the son of current Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen.

“I couldn’t be happier to see another talented young conservative nominated, am thrilled at the prospect of having Devin join our caucus team.  For the second time this week, United Conservative members have nominated an energetic, passionate member of the millennial generation to be their candidate, and hopefully, their representative in Edmonton.  This is a testament to the renewal our movement has experienced thanks to the unqualified success of the unity project”.

30 year old Laila Goodridge was elected the UCP candidate for the upcoming by-election in Fort McMurray-Conklin on Tuesday, that by-election will replace former MLA and Wildrose Leader Brian Jean.

Dreeshen is a 30 year old Pine Lake area farmer whose resume also includes being an advisor to Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz from 2008-15.

He obtained Ritz’s endorsement during the nomination campaign as well as one from Luke Ouellette, who was Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation and MLA for the riding for 11 years.

Dreeshen has currently been working as a consultant advising agricultural stakeholders on trade issues.

A total of 6 candidates were vying for the UCP nomination in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake to replace former MLA Don McIntyre who resigned in February amid charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

No date has been set yet for that by-election.

The UCP are hosting their AGM and founding convention this weekend in Red Deer.
